Adobe Express Design Assistant
Project Overview
Co-Pilot is an AI-powered design assistant currently in development within Adobe Express. It’s designed to help users learn, create, and gain confidence through a context-aware, in-product toolbar. Built on Adobe’s machine learning platform, Co-Pilot offers real-time support and creative suggestions, blending seamlessly into the Express interface. The project began as an experimental initiative and has since evolved into the foundation for a scalable AI assistance framework that aligns with the growing demand for in-app guidance and intelligent tooling.
My Role – UX Lead Designer, Strategic Partner to PM & Engineering
I joined at the earliest concept stage to help shape the product vision and UX approach. Working in close collaboration with a senior designer, I led design exploration and prototyping to define the assistant’s core functionality and interaction model. I partnered cross-functionally with PMs, researchers, and engineers to align on technical feasibility and future-proof the experience for emerging AI capabilities and evolving user needs.
In collaboration with PM, and design, we workshopped to align on features, strategy, and timelines. We looked across the aisles at our other sister products (i.e. Photoshop and Firefly) for inspiration and for cohesion for the UI and user experiences.
Early prototype that launched the concept of a "co-pilot" design AI design tool.
Prototype: Multi-piece Smart Suggestion flow The assistant helps users take multiple steps to make edits to their designs.
Prototype: Suggest text flow The Design Assistant will guide users to updating images in their design layout.
